Overview

Team profile

Turkey are only recent additions to the international elite of women's volleyball, but they've made huge strides since their first important medal -a silver at the 2003 European Championships which they hosted in Ankara.

Since then, Turkey have been present in most important global and continental events, winning bronze medals at the 2012 World Grand Prix at Ningbo and the 2011 European Championships in Belgrade. More recently, Turkey won the gold medal at the Baku 2015 European Games, defeating Poland in the final.

Turkey has also been a dominant force in the FIVB age-group world championships during the last decade, claiming, amongst others, a silver (2007) and a gold (2011) medal in the U18 World Championships. Turkey ranked 5th in the inaugural U23 World Championships in 2013 in Tijuana.

The 2015 U23 squad includes a few of the players who won the gold in Baku and also competed in the 2015 World Grand Prix, where Turkey managed just two wins in nine games to rank 11th in Group 1.
