Thailand have made their mark in the inaugural Asian Women’s U23 Volleyball Championship in Manila, Philippines in May 2015, when they finished second place overall to gain berth for the 2015 FIVB Volleyball Women’s U23 World Championship in Ankara, Turkey. The Thai team, which includes key players such as Ajcharaporn Kongyot and Hattaya Bamrungsuk, sparkled through their exceptional performances to stun formidable teams such as Japan and Korea en route to the final against U23 world champions China, which they lost to in the four-set final match. More than half of the team consists of players that joined the 2014 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship in Italy, where they performed well beyond expectations by beating Mexico in straight sets to help the young Thai team finish the shared 17th place among 24 teams.
