Ankara, Turkey, August 14, 2015 – Bulgaria blanked Egypt in straight sets 25-16, 25-18, 25-15 at 2015 FIVB Volleyball Women’s U23 World Championship in Ankara on Friday afternoon. The East Europeans controlled all aspects of the match to secure their second win here in Turkey.
Bulgaria’s Mira Todorova, Silvana Chausheva and Simona Dimitrova collected 16, nine and eight points, respectively, in the victory. Egypt’s Farida El Askalany had a match-high nine points and Sarah Hanafy added seven in the losing cause.
Five consecutive points from 16-12 to 21-12 were good enough for Bulgaria to cruise to a relaxed 1-0 set lead. Mira Todorova closed it out for the Bulgarians with a spectacular block kill at 25-16.
Even though the young Egyptians never gave up, they couldn’t cope with the power and speed the Bulgarian ladies displayed. The team of coach Atanas Lazarov quickly jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the second set and never looked back until 25-18.
The match remained a one-sided affair in the third and last set. None of the African players managed to strike back. Bulgaria’s Todorova utilized their first match ball to wrap up the set 25-15 and the match 3-0.
