Brazil storm past Colombia in Women’s U23 World Champs opener

Ankara, Turkey, August 12, 2015 – Brazil swept Colombia in straight sets (25-15, 25-15, 25-18) in their opening match of the FIVB 2015 U23 Women’s World Championship in Ankara, Turkey. The young Colombians did their best to stop their opponents but could not cope with the power and speed the Brazilians displayed on Wednesday afternoon in Ankara’s Arena Hall.

Best scorers for Brazil were Rosamaria with 18 points and Gabi with 13 kills. Amanda contributed 11 points for Colombia. Brazil had the edge in attacking (46-28) and blocking (9-0!), Colombia in serving (8-5).

Captain Rosamaria (six points) and middle blocker Saraelen (five) led the yellow-and-blue to an undisputed 25-15 win in the opening set. Colombia’s Amanda found some space in the Brazilian defense but could not prevent the favourites from taking the lead in Wednesday’s first match at Ankara Arena.

The story of the match did not change much in the second and third set. Colombia had their best moments in the beginning of the third set, the young Brazilian ladies – however – kept control of the match with a brilliant offense and an excellent block-defense system. After 81 minutes, Rosamaria ended the match in Brazil’s favour with a blistering winner from the right side.
