Brazil roll past Bulgaria to claim semifinal spot

Ankara, Turkey, August 17, 2015 – Brazil saw off Bulgaria in straight sets (25-17, 25-8, 30-28) on Monday afternoon to book the second semifinal ticket from Pool A. Bulgaria couldn’t display the same performance they did against hosts Turkey on Saturday. The South Americans – other the other hand – showed their power with huge determination.

Drussyla was the leading force for Brazil with 15 points, including one ace and one block kill. Bulgaria’s Gergana Dimitrova finished with a match-high of 16 points. Both teams had six blocks but Brazil was much better in attacking (39-27).

Brazil quickly tool control of the match in the early stages of the first set. Their solid passing and an impressive offense were two of the key factors why Bulgaria couldn’t display the same show they did against Turkey. Gabi (five points) and Drussyla (four) led the South Americans to an undisputed 25-17 set win.

The yellow-and-blues extended their run to a veritable spectacle in the second set. With only seven mistakes in two sets, Brazil were just too good for their contenders from Bulgaria. The East Europeans showed no reaction, finishing the second period with only eight (!) points on their scoreboard.

Bulgaria had their best moments in the third and last set. The team of coach Atanas Lazarov led 24-22, 25-24 and 27-26 but eventually couldn’t conclude. The Brazilians kept calm, saving all four set balls and wrapping up the set 30-28 and the match 3-0.
