Overview

Team profile

Italy are historically one of the top teams in the world in women's volleyball, having won numerous titles and trophies across the board in FIVB and continental competitions. This includes gold medals at senior World Championships (2002), World Cups (2007 & 2011), European Championships (2007 & 2009) and lots more.

At age-group level Italy are proud holders of the 2011 title in the U20 World Championships and have also won one silver (1999) and three bronze (1995, 1997 and 2005) medals at the U18 competition. They were also present at the inaugural U23 World Championships, in 2003 in Tijuana, where they finished 6th. This is in addition to six gold medals at Junior European Championships (where only the former Soviet Union holds more honours).

This year Italy are competing at the U23 World Championships with a team comprised of players who didn't get a chance to join the senior team that finished 5th at the World Grand Prix finals in Omaha.
